Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent collision with teammate Jones.

Jones stepped on the footwear of the big man, and he instantly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.

The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the injury.

The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to determine the extent of the issue.

"Instantly, he understood something was wrong," commented Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as talented as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We'll move on together. Clearly, currently, I am more concerned primarily about him personally and the letdown of facing a situation like that."
