Citizens have assembled across the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the UN and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer create a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the plan.

A prominent representative familiar with the discussions revealed that an late session of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the morning session finished without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the initial stage of the deal.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have still not achieve any real breakthrough," but pointed out that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, young Hagar - whose sibling survived the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were killed and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester Atalia Regev stated: "We must do whatever arrangement needed for the abducted to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be protected."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the war to end in return for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people indicated the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side district, Rimal and locality areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"When the dusk comes, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"We are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, clinging, notably my smallest child who rests his head on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of the city reported two more fatalities had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south, medical staff reported.
