Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with performances like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
